2010 Golf Highlights

(SIDNEY, OH)—The sixteenth annual Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic took place on Monday, July 12, at Shelby Oaks Golf Club in Sidney. Proceeds for the event netted over $40,000, which will be used to build the Foundation’s endowment fund. This fund provides perpetual support to Wilson Memorial Hospital.

This year’s event attracted 158 golfers and was corporately supported by three Titanium sponsors: Advanced Composites, Inc.; Dale Peterson and Associates, Inc.; and Premier Health Care Services, Inc. A total of 59 sponsors helped support this year’s outing.

Archie Griffin, former Cincinnati Bengal and running back for The Ohio State University, played in this year’s outing as the guest of Foundation golf outing chair, Dale Peterson. Griffin is college football’s only two-time Heisman trophy winner and was the first player ever to start in four Rose Bowls. Griffin also participated in the first Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation golf outing sixteen years ago and was the guest speaker at the initial event.

Kettering Anesthesia sponsored the lunch at the turn; and par three beverages were courtesy of Sidney Cardiology. Cart sponsors included Buckeye Ford; CenturyLink; Creative Marketing Strategies, Inc.; Dale E. Peterson; Flinn Veterinary Clinic; Francis-Schulze Co.; The HMC Group; Norcold; and The Spot Restaurant.

Contest winners included: John Brown, closest-to-the-pin, who won a one-week stay in a Westin Resort villa in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, courtesy of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation. Tony Linkmeyer won the putting contest sponsored by Dale Peterson & Associates, Inc. and received the $200 reward.

Overall first place winners of the event included: Brad Shaw, Nate Weston, Doug Bomba, and Larry King of the Blue & Company team; second place winners were: Bryan Bucklew, Greg Page, John Bucklew, and Michael Sandner of the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association team; and third place winners were Mark Dunham, Rudy Keister, Josh Ross, and Elmer Schlater. Two teams tied for fourth place. The golfers were: Randy Rose, Bob Anderson, Cathy Bevan and Pat Carus who played for the Emerson Climate Technologies team; and Jeff Smelcer, Jim Ferguson, Tony Lloyd and John Eve of the Northwest Group Services team. The SKINS winning teams splitting an $800 prize were Pharmacy Systems and Blue & Company. The Pharmacy Systems team donated their share of the prize money back to Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation. Chris Geise won a free sleep study from the Wilson Memorial Hospital cardiopulmonary services valued at $2,000.

All golfers received various gift items and door prizes. Proximity prizes were awarded on each of the 27 holes. Donors of these prizes included: Hampton Inn; Dollywood; Sidney Electric; Sidney Quality Inn; WMH Imaging; Shelby Oaks; Sollmann Electric; Kings Island; Cal Jones; Emerson Climate Technologies; Dan Hemm; Sheraton Suites Columbus; Cincinnati Reds; WMH Occupational Health; App Architecture; Primary EyeCare Associates; Piqua Country Club; Elsass, Wallace, Evans & Schnelle; Newport Aquarium; Victoria Theatre; SMS proTECH; The Medicine Shoppe; Hansbarger’s Solutions; Vectren Dayton Airshow; and Columbus Crew.

There were 49 community volunteers present at this year’s outing including the Wilson Memorial Hospital Volunteens who also assisted with the event.
