Bonnie Faulkner, executive director of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation welcomed guests to the charity event. “The gifts of your time and resources are vitally important to the future of Wilson Memorial. I am reminded daily as I walk through the hallways just how important Wilson is to our community. Seldom does a week go by that someone doesn’t express to me their appreciation of the hospital and the care that either they or a loved one received. “

Since 1994, the annual foundation ball has been one of the primary friend and fundraisers for Wilson Memorial. Including the revenue from this evening’s festivities, a net total of more than $531,200 has been raised for Wilson. Faulkner continued, “We couldn’t possibly have achieved this without the help of our underwriters and all of you, our special guests, who join us each year.”

Following Faulkner’s presentation, Wilson Foundation board chair, Mike Dodds, was introduced and he shared his comments. “A high quality, progressive hospital is critical to the growth and success of our community. Young families are concerned about the quality of life in their community. Wilson Hospital adds immensely to the quality of life factor and the ability to attract new residents to our area.” Dodds continued his accolades stating, “Since I began serving on the foundation board in 2006, I have gained a new appreciation of the Wilson Memorial foundation board and I continue to be more and more impressed by this organization and the wonderful people who diligently work to make Wilson an exceptional medical facility.”

All proceeds from the 2013 charity ball will be added to the Foundation’s endowment fund to provide future funding to ensure that the hospital continues to maintain the high level of service and technology.

Tom Boecker, President and CEO of Wilson Memorial then offered his comments. “2012 was a very successful year for Wilson. I want to briefly describe several ways we measure success. First are the financial measures. We again were very profitable. Our profitability allows us to keep up with technology. Last year we spent over $7 million just to meet the government’s requirements on electronic medical records. “Boecker continued, “Even more important than financial is quality. We measure quality through many indicators. In 2012 we continue to meet and, in many cases, exceed national benchmark standards.” He explained further, “Another measure is commitment. I can tell you we are committed to our customers’ needs and expectations. Several recent new services to better meet our customers’ needs are the Cardiac Cath and Interventional lab, the Urgent Care Clinic, and the Coumadin Clinic.”

Following dinner, guests enjoyed music for all types of dancing provided by DJ Tony Brown. They also had the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a variety of outstanding prizes, bid on silent auction items, and purchase “sparkling diamond” rings to win two $1,000 gift certificates from Harris Jeweler.
