2011 Golf Classic Nets Over $43,000 For Wilson Foundation
July11 marked the 17th annual Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic held at Shelby Oaks Golf Club in Sidney. Net proceeds for the event were over $43,000, which will be used to build the Foundation’s endowment fund. This fund provides perpetual support to Wilson Memorial Hospital. Total net funds raised since this event’s inception in 1995 are nearly $660,000.
168 golfers played in the event corporately supported by three Titanium sponsors: Dale Peterson and Associates, Inc.; Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc.; and Premier Health Care Services, Inc. The event attracted a total of 63 sponsors.
Archie Griffin, former American football running back who played for the Ohio State University, was a guest of outing chair, Dale Peterson. Griffin is college football’s only two-time Heisman trophy winner and was the first player ever to start in four Rose Bowls. Griffin also participated in the first Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation golf outing seventeen years ago and was the guest speaker at the initial event. Pete Johnson, former college and professionalAmerican footballrunning back, also joined the Peterson team. Johnson spent 8 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to his NFL career, he played fullback for the Ohio State University from 1973 through 1976.The fourth golfer on the Peterson team was retired OSU men’s golf coach, Jim Brown. Brown coached OSU golfers for 36 years.
Kettering Anesthesia sponsored the lunch at the turn; north course green fees were courtesy of Kettering Physician Network Sidney Cardiology. Cart sponsors included Buckeye Ford Lincoln Mercury of Sidney; Dale E. Peterson; Francis-Schulze Co.; Hartland Co.; KTH Parts Inds., Inc.; Norcold; S & S Management, Inc.; and Schmiesing & Flinn Veterinary Clinic.
Contest winners included: Jim Brown, closest-to-the-pin, who won a one-week stay in a Westin Resort villa at Hilton Head courtesy of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation. Mike Dunson won the putting contest sponsored by Dale Peterson & Associates, Inc. and received the $200 reward.
Overall first place winners of the event included: Marty Larson, Ron Mayse, Danny Schuler and Troy Schuler of the GDAHA team; second place winners were Dr. Ken Bosslet, John Dunlap, Bruce Dickman and John Craig; the Northwest Group Services team of John Eve, Jeff Smelcer, Tony Lloyd, and Tim Booth placed third; and those who took fourth place were Dr. Robert Kiefaber, Dr. Ajay Reddivari, Dr. Rudy Bohinc, and Dr. Prashanth Kumar. The SKINS winning teams splitting an $840 prize were GDAHA and Dr. Robert Kiefaber, Dr. Ajay Reddivari, Dr.Rudy Bohinc, and Dr. Prashanth Kumar. A total of $230 in prize money was donated back to the Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation.  Archie Griffin donated back the free sleep study that he won from the Wilson Memorial Hospital cardiopulmonary department valued at $2,500. 
All golfers received various gift items and door prizes. Outstanding raffle prizes were awarded to 23 golfers. Donors of these prizes included: Cal Jones; Cincinnati Reds; Cleveland Indians; Dan Hemm; Elsass, Wallace, Evans, & Schnelle; Emerson Climate Technologies; Freshway Foods; Hampton Inn; Hansbarger’s Solutions; Heapy Engineering; Paul Kent; The Medicine Shoppe; NCR Country Club; Piqua Country Club; Primary EyeCare Associates; Shelby Oaks; Sheraton Suites Columbus; Sidney Inn; Sollmann Electric; WMH Imaging; and WMH Occupational Health. 
36 community volunteers, the Fairlawn golf team, and Wilson Memorial Hospital’s maintenance department also assisted with the event.
Registration for next year’s outing on Monday, July 9, 2012 will be available at www.wilsonhospitalfoundation.com after July 18, 2011. A registration form must be sent to the Foundation office in order to be registered and hold your place. Payment is not due until 2012.

Closest to the Pin

Coach Jim Brown came within 3 inches of the pin on 1 West, winning the closest to the pin.  He will be spending one-week in the Westin Resort in Hilton Head which accommodates six people and includes free golf and tennis for four people daily.

Longest Putt Contest

The six putt-off finalists were: Bryan Braswell, Ed Christopher, Andy Counts, Mike Dunson, Dale McEldowney, and Brent Phillips.  Meeting after dinner on the practice putting green, it was Mike Dunson who took home the $200 cash prize courtesy of Dale Peterson & Associates.
